Full description

In 1968 a Regional office of the Valuer General's Department was established at Newcastle. The field staff of the Newcastle former District Office were moved to new premises. Some Head Office functions became decentralised and transferred to the new office with clerical staff to perform the tasks. The District office was thereby converted to a regional office. (1)

In 1970 the Newcastle Regional Office had charge of the districts of Gosford, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Wyong and, until a regional office at Maitland was opened, most of the districts in the Maitland region.

During the year 1970, general valuation lists for the districts of Newcastle, Hastings and Port Stephens were issued from the office. Some 5050 applications for certificates of valuation and extracts were issued and approximately 37,000 notices of sale and 14,400 changes of address were processed; 11,000 supplementary valuations were issued. During 1973 it the decision to open a regional office at Maitland was reversed, and the whole of the records for the Hunter District of Region No, 9 were centralised at Newcastle . However, the records of the Shires of Gosford and Wyong were taken from Newcastle and transferred to a sub regional office at Gosford. (3)

By 1979 the Regional Office was known as the Hunter Regional Office. (4) By 1986 there had been some rationalisation of district offices and the structure was Hunter Regional Office: Gosford Sub-Regional Office; Muswellbrook District Office (5) By 1993 the organization structure had flattened, Gosford had become a District Office to the Hunter Regional Office and Muswellbrook was transferred as a regional office to the New England Regional Office.
