Brief description
This project aims to reduce nitrous oxide emissions fromdryland grains cropping in northern and southern NSW through
improving the nitrogen use efficiency of applied nitrogenous
fertiliser, through the use of inhibitors, and through
substituting fertiliser nitrogen with legume-derived nitrogen.
Measurements of nitrous oxide will be field based, primarily
using automated chambers at two key trial sites, but also using
manual chambers at on-farm N-response trial sites conducted as
part of the GRDC nitrogen-responses project. Field results will
be modelled to improve the capability of predicting nitrous
oxide emissions from dryland cropping. Project outputs will
contribute to the development of CFI methodologies for more
efficient nitrogen fertiliser use in the grains industry.
