Brief description

Metadata record for data from ASAC Project 2303
See the link below for public details on this project.

---- Public Summary from Project ----
Seismologists investigate deep Earth structure by interpreting waveforms from distant earthquakes. High-fidelity instruments deployed in Antarctica enabled new details to be imaged in the crust and mantle beneath the ice-covered regions crossed by the earthquake waves. The deep structure tells the story of the ongoing evolution of the tectonic plates.

Work was completed as part of the SSCUA project (Seismic Structure of the Continent Under Antarctica).

Overview:
Contains waveform data on unix-compatible DVD for all events in the Harvard CMT catalogue (generally events greater than magnitude 5.5) occurring during instrument deployment/up time.

Directory structure:
/meta = raw data processing information (limited further use)
/oseed = Orion recorder seed event archive
Within /oseed, are service directories, and then /year/month/file.sed directories and files. Depending on data volumes the final files are either day or hour archives containing data from all stations bundled into that service directory. It may be appropriate to search several service directories for data from all stations since there can be nearly a year delay between data being recorded and uplifted.

Station information:
Locations, and location codes are as follows:

Location: DA01 -68.5747 077.9801 DAVI DAVIS
Location: AL01 -70.2524 065.8629 JACK JACKLYN PEAK

Location: AL09 -74.2987 066.7933 WILS WILSON BLUFF

Data format:
Data are in seed (Standard for the Exchange of Earthquake Data) format and may be extracted using rdseed (version 4.3) available from the IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutes for Seismology) software library.
