The Centre for Educational Research at Western Sydney University focuses on creating sustainable communities and equitable futures through world class research and research training structured around core themes of Sustainability, Equity and Globalisation. Educational curriculum and pedagogies are the linking themes throughout.
The Sustainability program of research investigates questions of sustainability in order to shape educational research and practice for these precarious times. Through multiple theories of place we develop creative methodologies to imagine new ways of living with the planet.
The Equity in Educational Outcomes program of research investigates increasing exclusion and inequality and their impact on social, civic and economic participation. This means challenging unjust systemic social structures to ensure that life pathways are open for people of all histories, ages, sexualities, genders, language backgrounds and ethnicities.
Investigating the processes of Globalisation in the locale of Greater Western Sydney; nationally and internationally in order to inform and direct educational research, policy and practice. This thematic program interrogates and acts upon the effects of population mobility and rapid social and economic change. Specifically, this research program addresses the responses to education and learning arising from globalised neoliberal market forces.
