Full description

These volumes provide a record of state-wide correspondence classified by the Board of Fire Commissioners as "B" (possibly Building) Letters. These volumes covered theatres and public halls, hospitals, mental institutions, nursing homes, hostels, showgrounds, and schools. Commercial buildings are listed under the category of "Firms" and include office buildings, retail outlets, factories and warehouses. The correspondence subjects concern repairs, improvement and maintenance of buildings and plant, construction of new premises and the payment of tradesmen and contractors. There is also a detailed listing of safety matters such as fire retardants, fireproof screens, fire hazards, inflammable materials, and explosives.

These registers are arranged numerically. The following information is contained in the register: progressive number; date received; classification; subject; previous papers; subsequent papers; how dealt with; and file number.
