Full description
On 7 June 1939 a meeting between the Chairman and Producer Member of the Egg Marketing Board and members of the Executive of the Poultry Famers Association agreed to establish a committee to investigate the possibility of extending the Egg Marketing Board's area of control which was at that time confined to the Counties of Cumberland and Northumberland and the Shires of Nattai and Wollondilly. (1) The Committee was titled the Marketing Problems Committee and consisted of representatives from the Poultry Farmers Association, the Egg Marketing Board, and the Department of Agriculture. (2) The Committee was given the power to add members at its discretion. It would appear the Marketing Problems Committee’s first meeting was held on 28 June 1939. (3) At the Committee’s third meeting on 4 December 1939 it was decided that the extension of the Egg Marketing Board’s control over the whole of the state was necessary because the rapid growth of production in the uncontrolled areas was threatening the Board’s ability to stabilise the industry. (4) The Marketing Problems Committee then set about campaigning to increase the Egg Marketing Board’s control over the entire state.
The last minutes of the Marketing Problems Committee are dated 10 July 1941 although it is not known if this was the Committee’s last meeting.(5)
