The inaugural meeting of the Admissions and Assessment Committee of the Riverina College of Advanced Education (RCAE) was convened on 26 August 1982. (1) Prior to the establishment of this Committee, the admission and assessment functions within the College had been preformed separately by two different Committees. However, like its predecessors, this Committee reported directly to the principal academic body of the College, the College Board. The terms of reference for the Committee included:
- to recommend to Academic Board categories of applicants for admission to the College/Institute and the general educational requirements for each category;
- to recommend to the Board the assessment policies, procedures and practices of the College/Institute as a whole; and
- to recommend to the Registrar on the admission of applicants under the ordinary admission procedures. (2)
The membership of the Admissions and Assessment Committee comprised of:
- the Dean of Studies;
- the Deputy Principal of the Riverina Campus;
- the Deputy Principal of the Murray Campus;
- the Praelector;
- two members of the Academic Board (nominated by the Academic Board);
- the Registrar; and
- a student member of the Academic Board. (3)
The final meeting of the Admissions and Assessment Committee of the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education (RMIHE) took place on 9 November 1989. (4) The Charles Sturt University Act (1989) had been enacted making way for the establishment of Charles Sturt University. Consequently the Committee was disbanded at the conclusion of this meeting.
