The records were transferred to the State Library of Victoria (MS13596). The McLaren Family Guide to Records documents and contextualises the records of the McLaren Family, a family prominent in mathematics, medicine and education. The collection consists of 224 inventory items, mostly paper format files, grouped into 26 series. The collection documented in the Guide includes correspondence, photographs, publications and other records documenting several generations of the McLaren family, who were prominent in mathematics, medicine and education. The total collection occupies 209 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent).

The Guide is the output of a research database. It was published online by the eScholarship Research Centre in May 2008. The Australian Science Archives Project began preparing the Guide in the late 1990s and this work was carried on by its successors, the Australian Science Archives Project and later the eScholarship Research Centre.
