Full description
This series was created to record orders that were filed at the Warrnambool Court of Petty Sessions. Originally the court used the registers to record what appeared to be all orders that were filed at Warrnambool. Types of orders recorded were for debts, criminal orders, obscene language and being drunk and disorderly. Over time the variety of orders that were recorded declined and only debt and maintenance orders were being listed. Eventually around 1945, the registers were only being used to record maintenance orders filed at Warrnambool. When an order was made in the Court, a supervising court was nominated to file the order. The supervising court would not necessarily be the court that made the order. The choice of court was usually the court closest to where the subject of the order resided. All orders listed in the registers were made in courts in the west of the state including St Arnaud, Boort, Hamilton and Ararat.
Information recorded was the number of the order, who the order was made against (in some cases the other party was also listed if the order was the result of the application of another party), date and type of order, and the court which made the order. This series is an index for VPRS 15325 Court of Petty Sessions Maintenance Files Filed at Warrnambool.
