Full description

Data presented on gamete concentrations (number of oocytes or sperm released per gram of gonad materrial, following induced spawning on samples of gonads) for Pacific crown-of-thorns starfish collectedd on the Great Barrier Reef during the population irruption that started in ~2010. Also presented are total mass of gonads and corresponding total body mass of larger set of starfish, to facilitate estimated of reproductive investment or gonad index (GI)

Dataset consists of 3 spreadsheets (saved in both MS Excel (.xlsx) and Open Document (.ods) formats):

  • GI COTS GBR 2014-19 - Gonad index (total mass of gonads/ total body mass) for Pacific crown-of-thorns starfish
  • Oocyte conc COTS GBR 2015 - Ocyte concentrations measured from samples taken from 3 different arms for each of 32 females, collected at Lizard Island
  • Sperm conc COTS GBR 2015 - Sperm concentrations measured from samples taken from 3 different arms for each of 11 males, collected at Lizard Island
