Brief description
The Belyuen Song collection consists of audio recordings and documentation of indigenous Australian music from the Belyuen Region, NT. The collection is an outcome of a research project to audio-record and document indigenous Australian music and build partnerships between members of the Belyuen community, ethnomusicologists and linguists in order to translate original song texts, identify performers and performances, archive and preserve recordings of performances, and record contextual information about the songs, e.g. associated places of importance or key concepts.
The data collection includes recordings and documentation in a variety of media. Audio files were digitised in standard .mp3 and .wav formats. Video files were recorded in .mov, .mp4 and .mpeg2 formats. Documentary materials were collected and stored in multiple formats, including .xml, plain text, .rtf, word and .pdf. Supplementary materials include images in .tiff and .jpeg format.
